Khongoryn els are some of the largest and most impressive sand dunes in Mongolia. Also known as the Duut Mankhan (Singing Dunes – from the sound they make when the sand is moved by the wind). The sand dune reaches as high as 300m, 12km wide and about 100km long. Tourists enjoy camel riding nearby areas of the sand dune and hiking and taking pictures. Climbing to the top could be tough, due to the soft and slippery sands, but the gobi looks amazing from the top. Evening is the best time to photograph the sunset on the dunes. During the sun set, the colors change from white to pink to orange.
